The Uncut

Being quiet is a great way to find out if you are noticed. Think about it. Try it. The 18th is coming and I going to make sure to hit the gym a few times before it comes. I've told certain individuals to watch what they say, do, think (yes, I read minds from time to time)...but some people like to learn hard lessons.

During lab Thursday, we had a pretty interesting time discussing the problems that women who make a lot of money face. Are you comfortable with a women making more than you, guys? Women, how do you feel about how much money your future husband makes? Ladies that took part in this conversation (except one) can be seen in the following video.

This year is quickly ending and a new one approaching, I hope I am around for both. Really hoping everyone plans on a doing a post worthy of the special occasion. I know I will. I'm pretty sure that Yaz and Givi will. How about you?

This past week was definitely all about "chasing the future"....let's hope I'm fast. I know what I want to do this summer (Igor, I'll update you but only after....well let's see if you do it). Soon as I heard about a certain opportunity, I knew I had to find a way to get into it. To G, I will be hitting you with some info soon on that program I mentioned awhile back. Go ahead & starting thinking if you want to do ATL (you stay on Emory's campus & get a meal plan), LA, DC, Philly, Houston, and I think a few others places, like NY.

What else? I met a few doctors that I hope to find time to shadow.....and watch some open heart surgery soon! That stuff is intense, which I like. Am I a future surgeon? The answer is "I don't know". My interest is shared between about 4 things right now.
[the doctor is this photo is on the left]

Treize might be back at it soon (or maybe already). Let us see what comes of it.

Why it is hard for people to say what they want for Xmas? What is funny to me is that some people who have a hard time answering....nevermind.

p.s. what ever happened to Igor's weekly? Is it fair that he is able to know what's going on with us, but we don't have the chance to know what's going on with him?

On This Day...

On this day, you read something that moved you and made you realise there were no more fears to fear. No tears to cry. No head to hang in shame. That every time you thought you’d offended someone, it was all just in your head and really, they love you with all their heart and nothing will ever change that. That everyone and everything lives on inside you. That that doesn’t make any of it any less real.

That soft touches will change you and stay with you longer than hard ones.

That being alone means you’re free. That old lovers miss you and new lovers want you and the one you’re with is the one you’re meant to be with. That the tingles running down your arms are angel feathers and they whisper in your ear, constantly, if you choose to hear them. That everything you want to happen, will happen, if you decide you want it enough. That every time you think a sad thought, you can think a happy one instead.

That you control that completely.

That the people who make you laugh are more beautiful than beautiful people. That you laugh more than you cry. That crying is good for you. That the people you hate wish you would stop and you do too.

That your friends are reflections of the best parts of you. That you are more than the sum total of the things you know and how you react to them. That dancing is sometimes more important than listening to the music.

That the most embarrassing, awkward moments of your life are only remembered by you and no one else. That no one judges you when you walk into a room and all they really want to know, is if you’re judging them. That what you make and what you do with your time is more important than you’ll ever fathom and should be treated as such. That the difference between a job and art is passion. That neither defines who you are. That talking to strangers is how you make friends.

That bad days end but a smile can go around the world. That life contradicts itself, constantly. That that’s why it’s worth living.

That the difference between pain and love is time. That love is only as real as you want it to be. That if you feel good, you look good but it doesn’t always work the other way around.

That the sun will rise each day and it’s up to you each day if you match it. That nothing matters up until this point. That what you decide now, in this moment, will change the future. Forever. That rain is beautiful.

And so are you.

"It’s the worst feeling in the world to love & hate someone all at the same time. And it’s hard to watch things change when all you want is for them to stay the same. It’s funny but stupid how you want everything & nothing at the same time. It’s crazy when you want to let go, but you keep holding on, & when you want to move on but you’re stuck right where you started. When feelings come and go & you can’t decide what you want. When you have so many things to say but you don’t know where to start. When you want them in your life so bad, but all you can do is push them farther & farther away. It’s so hard to think back to how things used to be & look at it now and realize that things are different & they may never be the same. You tell yourself it’s not worth it, but if it really didn’t matter, you wouldn’t spend so much time thinking about it."

"If someone comes into your life and becomes a part of you, but for some reason he/she couldn't stay, don't cry too much. Just be glad that your paths crossed and somehow he/she made you happy even for a while."

- my brother put this better.

I found this funny.

the Hidden Post

these last two days were tough, tiring and stressful. I'm not sure what's coming tomorrow. I should be able to catch up with the work i have to do and not waste time on shit that I didn't mess up but have to put in order.
I'll move soon. most of the furniture is there. only thing left is a good book to read (maybe draw some inspiration from) and a good computer to transfer all the files into. something that will allow me to have more than two applications running at the same time.... I don't know. I feel bad. too tired...

The Uncut (ventilation)

I don't think I will ever be able to be a "receiver", meaning those people who are comfortable accepting things w/o feeling the need to return the favor. I like to give....I really do but then (every now & then) I feel as though it is appreciated but not to the extinct that it should. Like, you can say "thank you" or "this made my day" so many times before it is your turn to make the other person's day. Isn't that fair?

[An example] A 3rd yr students comes into anatomy lab & volunteers a couple hrs each wk to help us...he's like an anatomy genius. More people came to his review than class! So, before our last test, a lot of us chose to get him a card and contribute some money. When he got it, I'm sure he really appreciated it, like we do his help.

This is how it should go! I don't like it when people are comfortable just receiving and never feel the need to return (or attempt to) what they have been getting. It is like eating at the table everyday but you never bring any of the food.

There is a group of black people in my class who are glad to get your emails with helpful information but they always seem to forget who you are when they have something that might be helpful to you. That is pretty disappointing.

It is good to be "the man" but it is a lot better when someone else fills those shoes too. That way both parties are enjoying one another.

You ever do a group project...finish it....then realize that the GROUP project is mostly YOUR work? When this happens, you either change the people in the group or you make sure not to put in as much work next time. I think the same applies to people/friends/relationships/whatever.

the TM discussion

TRUST

I feel like there are two types of trust: passive & active. What's the difference?

Passive (Trust): when you have this type of trust with someone, everything you learn about one another is base on asking (the right) question(s). If you didn't ask them, then you would not know. This is still a form of trust b/c they answer the question....they just don't volunteer it to you. This is the predominant trust. Usually when we say we "trust" someone, this is the type of trust we have in them.

Active (Trust): this is that special form of trust. when you volunteer info to someone about yourself (without them asking), then this is active trust. if another person knows you, about you, etc without having to specifically dig out that info....your trust for them is active. You openly give them knowledge about yourself (personal or whatever).

I see trust as falling within these two categories, I have yet to see from my own relationships any trust for someone that does not fit into either category mentioned above.

I like the way you put it and the fact that the two aren't really separated. Trust is a combination of two because if there's trust involved, that means there is some kind of a lasting relationship between people. The Passive trust indicates the genuine interest of the other party. We share what we have to share if we are asked to. The Active trust is us expressing the desire to share our feelings with others without them making any requests. In this case I think the trust is a bit stronger but sometimes there is a risk of running into a wall and the other party not being interested at all. I think that trust should be reciprocal thus there must be a combination of these two. I really do agree that trust falls somewhere within these categories.

in the first case (passive trust) there also a risk of expecting and hoping for some type of attention, the right questions and not receiving that. Everyone expresses that differently so I'd try to just do whatever feels right at the moment. If I want to sit back for awhile I will but I will always share my thoughts with those I trust.

Free Flowin Fridayz (Week 35)-Tuesday Edition

Yet another late post *sigh.*
Rather symbolic of my life though...
Oh Well.
I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. We don't really celebrate Thanksgiving, but sometimes we do have Turkey. However, this past Friday was Eid ul-Adha. The Muslim holiday that occurs approximately 2 months after the end of Ramadan and coincides with the Muslim pilgrimage in Saudia Arabia from Mecca to Medina. Because it was Thanksgiving weekend I was scheduled to work a lot including Thanksgiving day. Lucky for me it wasn't that busy and I still get paid time and a half! On Friday we went to Eid prayer and then my family and another Egyptian family had brunch at the Jacksonville Landing and walked around for a bit then we all went to see Old Dogs. (A great movie! I love Robin Williams!)
Went home and at dinner and then I crashed real hard. My legs/knees were aching from the walking in heels, but it had been a good day.

Saturday I woke up missing my bottom retainer...No idea how I had lost it while sleeping. My dad and sister tried to look for it in my room with no luck. Anyway...we left to go to Kissimmee, FL to attend the Arabian Nights Dinner Show, which is essentially a display of horses and acrbatic talents. Unfortunately, we had NO idea that it was Christmas themed, which really ruined the whole holiday feel for my family since we don't celbrate Christmas and since we were going on this trip as a Eid holiday type thing. But the horses were still fun to watch.

Sunday my mom and I went to return a whole bunch of things at differnt stores (guess I should also mention that my little sister and I went to Target and Wal-Mart on Black Friday. Yup, I braved the cold and waited in line for a while from 4-5am, but it was fun). Anyway...we returned stuff and I got my friend his wedding present. Now I need to wrap it or put it in a nice bag. Oh yeah and my mom found my retainer...in the trash can by my desk.....no idea how it got there. I must have woken up in the middle of the night and spit it out or something. Oh and later that night I went and saw Ninja Assasin. It was ok, except the gore was a bit too much. I don't mind gore, but when gore takes away from the action I am not too impressed.

Anyway...hopefully I will be able to share some fun things on the blog in the coming days with you. I owe someone a debut and I haven't had a Takin it back...post in a while.

hmmm....so when TRIVI and IGZ came to visit..each of us had a camera. I kind of want copies of the pics they have for myself (and of course I'll send them the 3 I have). So hopefully those boys will get around to sending me those pics soon!
